Advance your English – Improve your Writing
(for participants at levels B2 - C1)

English Writing Skills Workshop

Do you work in the university administration and want to be able to produce high quality English texts (emails, website information, university forms, presentation slides, reports) more easily? Are you interested in using the newest university AI tools to support the writing and/or translation process, but would like some guidance on how to avoid common pitfalls? Do you generally want to improve your English writing skills and need some fresh ideas on how to go about it?

Methods

This half-day workshop takes place on campus and uses both plenary and small group activities. You will use our text examples (and some that you bring with you) to identify the characteristics of well-written texts and to define the challenges that you face when translating university texts into English. You will use our checklist to make decisions about how best to support your writing and translation processes for specific examples from your work context. Finally, you will learn and apply strategies to avoid common pitfalls when using AI-tools (e.g. DeepL) to support text production.

The workshop will take place at two different levels. The first workshop is for participants at levels A2 / B1. The second workshop is for participants at levels B2 / C1. The results of a short online language test will be used to allocate participants to these groups. Please use the link provided in order to take the test when you register for the course. You should send your result to Shirley.Roth@hs-rm.de and Weiterbildung-iwib@hs-rm.de. If you recently sent test results, then you do not need to take the test again.
